Pokemon Presents 2024 gave fans their first look at Pokemon Legends Z-A, the second title in the Pokemon Legends series. The Pokemon community's love for the first game has all eyes on Pokemon Legends Z-A and the large shoes it has to fill.
All Pokemon Legends Z-A details from Pokemon Presents - Release date, region, and trailer
I'll discuss the entirety of the trailer, provide a few details about the Kalos region, and give my thoughts on the release date of Pokemon Legends Z-A.
Pokemon Legends Z-A Release Trailer
The official Pokemon Presents 2024 stream can be watched directly from the Pokemon Asia ENG YouTube channel. The Pokemon Legends Z-A trailer begins at timestamp 10:53 and continues until the end of the Pokemon Presents stream.
The trailer begins with a confidential file talking about urban redevelopment. The environmental sketches in this file come to life, taking watchers through a lined sketch of the city complete with Pokemon and passersby. Several Generation 6 Pokemon can be spotted hanging about the streets here, including Furfrou, Hawlucha, Flabebe, and Talonflame.
The Talonflame flies around Prism Tower, rotating the camera so that the city is viewed from an aerial perspective. The animation ends, turning the lively city into a small sketch in the original file. The trailer confirms that Lumiose City is being redesigned for the next game. At this point in the trailer, it appeared as if the game would be a remake of the X and Y games like the remakes of Diamond and Pearl in 2021. As someone who played Pokemon X and Y at the end of my childhood, this was already exciting enough for me. However, the following title screen revealed something even more exciting.
The new game in the series is not a remake, but is rather a Kalos-style Pokemon Legends game! Myself and many others were thrilled by this. I have not had the pleasure of playing Legends: Arceus myself, but I've watched others play and have seen the special place it has in our community. The combination of the Pokemon Legends style of gameplay and the Kalos region, which has not been used in games since the release of X and Y in 2013, has me excited like never before. What makes this even more special is the implication that Mega Evolutions will be a part of Pokemon Legends Z-A due to the appearance of the Mega Evolution symbol at the end of the stream.
Pokemon Legends Z-A region
Pokemon Legends Z-A brings the beloved Pokemon, people, and landscapes from the Kalos region to the Pokemon Legends series. The Kalos region comes from the Generation VI six games, X and Y. It featured the starters Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, as well as the legendaries Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde.
What is the Pokemon Legends Z-A release date?
Currently, all we know about the release date of Pokemon Legends Z-A is that it will be released in 2025. This fits in pretty well with the current pattern of Pokemon release dates. Since X and Y, the main series Pokemon games have been released every three years. Additionally, the Pokemon Legends: Arceus game was released at the beginning of 2022, about 10 months before Scarlet and Violet.
- Pokemon X and Y - October 12th, 2013
- Pokemon Sun and Moon - November 18th, 2016
- Pokemon Sword and Shield - November 15th, 2019
- Pokemon Legends: Arceus - January 28th, 2022
- Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - November 18th, 2022
If Pokemon Legends Z-A is following the trend of Legends: Arceus, it will come out at the beginning of 2025. Around the same time, the Pokemon Presents in February 2025 will announce the new 10th Generation Pokemon game releasing in November 2025.
