The First Descendant devs perma ban almost 1400 players following crackdown on cheating

Naughty.

It's not uncommon for devs to have to deal with players trying to cheat the system in their games. From the use of aimbots to illegally downloading items into the game. For Nexon, the developers behind The First Descendant, ridding their game of scammers and cheaters has recently been a priority.

Fans of The First Descendant have already been particularly impressed with post-launch support, thanks to the consistent updates to the Steam Community news page from the devs, as well as updates on their own website.

Since the release of The First Descendant on June 30, 2024, there have been six different hotfixes, all addressing issues in the game and reoptimizing play for users. Hotfix 1.0.6, which went live on August 2, 2024, was a patch that dealt with a number of issues - including a UI display error, the unending activation of Valby's “Clean Up” skill, and added more monster spawns to the “Fortress Outskirts” mission in White-night Gulch. These are just some of the bugs and player issues that have been fixed in a timely manner by the team at Nexon.

Slightly earlier on August 2, 2024, Nexon released a post on Steam and on their official website regarding the "crackdown on abusive users" that was carried out between July 26 and August 1, 2024.

Players who were removed during this time were split into two categories:

  1. The creation, distribution, or use of unauthorized programs.
  2. The exploitation of all processes related to the Open Store.

Either offense was awarded a permanent game ban. For the creation, distribution, or use of unauthorized programs, 439 players were banned. For the exploitation of all processes related to the Open Store, 954 players were banned. That's a total of 1393 players banned from the game.

Nexon noted that the outcome of the crackdown on abusive users included actions taken based on players' reports and monitoring. So, if you're playing TFD, keep up the good work.
