The 2024 THQ Nordic Digital Showcase showed off several amazing games that we can all look forward to in the near(ish) future. Of these, one that caught my attention immediately was the cozy-style colony sim game Space for Sale.
Space for Sale is colorful game that follows the likes of Animal Crossing and Disney Dreamlight Valley into the simulation genre, allowing you to create your own unique, thriving communities on uncharted planets.
In Space for Sale, you take on the role of an interstellar realtor, tasked with transforming various alien worlds into vibrant spaces for your extraterrestrial clients. Like many life simulation games, you'll start with the basics: researching local wildlife, collecting resources, and constructing a place for yourself to work from.
Ultimately, though, you have your work cut out for you. you'll need to build entire neighborhoods that meet the unique preferences of the aliens who want to inhabit the area; ensuring that their needs are met before you can comfortably move on.
To me, this game feels like a mix of elements from the Animal Crossing series - from the villagers that need homes in a strange place in New Horizons, to the neighbors that you design homes and islands for in Happy Home Designer and the New Horizons DLC: Happy Home Paradise.
Space for Sale captures the essence of these well-loved Animal Crossing titles, and shoots them out into the universe. No longer bound by the constraints of "normal" Earthly items and findings, what will you do with your first planet?
Just this year, I've seen a multitude of cozy games enter the industry; including titles like Magical Delicacy (where you can create recipes that you find or buy around a harbor town), and quirkier games like Little Kitty, Big City (which I quite happily reviewed after playing for 15 hours straight).
I'm always happy to see another cozy game enter the scene, particularly one that brings something unique to the table. Well, Stardew Valley started the cozy alien interactions, so let's go bigger and make them a planet to live on.
